Supporters of President Paul Biya will tomorrow celebrate his 42-year rule with rallies, special broadcasts, and renewed calls for him to seek an eighth term

This is coming over two weeks after the 91-year-old president returned from a six-week absence, during which speculation over his health ran
high. Members of Biya’s party, the Cameroon People’s Democratic Movement (RDPC), are now being urged to show their steadfast support.
“Let us unite behind President Paul Biya to maintain stability and progress in Cameroon,” wrote Jean Nkuete, RDPC’s central committee secretary general, in a letter to party members.
This message praised Biya’s “remarkable achievements” and called for an end to “malicious speculation” about the leader, who has been in power since 1982 following Ahmadou Ahidjo’s resignation.”
The letter also emphasized that Cameroonians have a deep respect for age and wisdom, urging support for Biya to secure another term in office next October.
