The Catholic community in Kogi State is mourning the d.eath of Rev. Fr. Samuel Opeyemi Oyetoro, who was reportedly k!lled by unidentified assailants in Ajaokuta
The incident is said to have happened on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, along the Ajaokuta road.
Reports indicate that the priest was attacked and sta.bbed several times before his body was later found by the roadside.
Rev. Fr. Oyetoro was born in Egbe, in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State, and was a native of Ayetoro in Ijumu Local Government Area.
Before his de.ath, he was serving at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Egbe, where he carried out his pastoral duties.
For now, many questions remain unanswered as the circumstances surrounding the att.ack are still unclear.
Authorities have also not released a detailed official statement on what happened or whether anyone has been arrested.
The Catholic Diocese of Lokoja confirmed his de.ath in a statement, calling on members of the Church to remember him and his family in their prayers.
The Catholic Diocese said in a statement:
“We kindly request all priests, religious and Laity to pray for the peaceful repose of his soul during their Holy Masses and personal prayers and to pray for strength and consolation for his aged parents, siblings, parishioners and their entire Diocese of Lokoja during this time of grief”.
