Davido has expressed that American artists Chris Brown and Nicki Minaj hold deep respect for African music and culture
In a recent interview with Hot 107.9 FM in Atlanta, Davido shared that both artists prefer blending Afrobeats into their collaborations with him rather than sticking to traditional Western styles. He highlighted this in his recent track with Nicki Minaj, “If It’s Okay,” which features a strong Afrobeats influence.
“My collaboration with Nicki Minaj on ‘If It’s Okay’ has a lot of Afrobeats influence because she wanted the full African flavor. Nowadays, foreign artists want to embrace our musical styles, so it’s easier to work with them,” Davido said.
He also reflected on working with Chris Brown, noting, “When we recorded ‘Sensational,’ I tried to make it more American, but Chris insisted on adding Afrobeats. He asked me to sing in Pidgin. My dancers even appeared as the video vixens and toured with Chris Brown. Chris loves African culture, and Nicki does too.”
Chris Brown has shown his admiration for African culture through several collaborations with African artists, including Davido, Wizkid, Rema, Fireboy, and Lojay.
