Chris Brown has been ordered by a jury to pay $13 million to his former housekeeper after she won a civil lawsuit over injuries she suffered in a dog attack at the singer’s California home

The decision was delivered on Tuesday after jurors found Brown liable in the case filed by Maria Avila, who claimed she was seriously injured while working at the property.

Avila told the court that she had gone outside to dispose of trash when a large dog in Brown’s backyard allegedly attacked her, leaving her with severe injuries. She argued that the singer failed to keep the animal under control and should therefore be held responsible.

Brown rejected the allegations, insisting throughout the case that Avila’s own actions triggered the attack and that he should not be blamed.

While giving evidence during the trial, Avila described being left badly injured and covered in blood after the incident. Brown also took the stand, saying he chose not to dial 911 himself because he feared news of the attack would quickly become public. According to him, a member of his team contacted emergency services instead.

Although Avila initially asked the court to award her $90 million in damages, the jury settled on a $13 million payout.

The ruling adds to the list of legal troubles Brown has faced over the years, despite maintaining a successful music career.
