Raye, a serving NYSC corps member who recently went viral for openly criticizing the APC-led government over Nigeria’s rising cost of living, says she’s now paying a steep price for speaking out

In a recent update, Raye revealed that her bold stance has led to serious professional backlash. She claims she has been blacklisted by brands, and several influencers and content creators have started distancing themselves from her.
“Many of them don’t want to associate with me anymore,” she said, noting that planned partnerships and collaborations have quietly been cancelled since her viral video made the rounds online.
The video, which called out the government’s handling of the economy and highlighted the everyday struggles of Nigerians, struck a chord with many but also stirred unease in certain circles—particularly within the influencer space.
Her experience has sparked renewed discussions on freedom of expression, especially for young Nigerians who are trying to balance civic duty, personal values, and career opportunities in a politically sensitive environment.
Still, Raye remains unapologetic. “I spoke my truth, and I won’t apologize for that,” she affirmed.
