The Lagos High Court in Ikeja has ordered that all members of the Lagos State House of Assembly be joined as parties in the lawsuit filed by Mudashiru Obasa, the ousted Speaker, challenging his removal

Justice Yetunde Pinheiro issued this directive and adjourned the case to March 7, 2025, for the hearing of all pending applications.
Obasa was removed from his position on January 13, 2025, by 36 lawmakers while he was out of the country. In response, he filed a suit contesting the legality of his removal and the subsequent election of Hon. Mojisola Meranda as the new Speaker.
During the proceedings, members loyal to Meranda sought to be joined as defendants in the suit. The court’s decision to include all assembly members aims to ensure a comprehensive resolution to the leadership dispute.
The legal teams involved feature prominent Senior Advocates of Nigeria (SANs), including Tayo Oyetibo and Bimbo Akeredolu representing Meranda, and Femi Falana alongside Muiz Banire representing the 36 lawmakers.
This development adds a new dimension to the ongoing leadership crisis within the Lagos State House of Assembly, with the next court session scheduled for March 7, 2025.
