Justice Hauwa’u Evelyn Buhari delivered the ruling, stating that El-Rufai personally ordered the arrest of the elders following the killing of their traditional ruler, Dr. Raphael Maiwada Galadima. The court ruled that their arrest and detention, which lasted over 30 days without trial, violated their fundamental human rights.

The Nigerian Police Force, the Inspector General of Police, and the Kaduna State Commissioner of Police were also fined N10 million each for their role in the incident.

Those detained included former state officials, a retired police officer, and respected community leaders.

Speaking after the judgment, their lawyer, Gloria Mabeiam Ballason, described the verdict as a major step toward holding public officials accountable for human rights violations.
