Local government chairmen and councillors in Osun State, who were previously sacked by Governor Ademola Adeleke in 2022, have officially resumed their offices across the state’s 30 local government areas
The resumption follows a ruling by the Court of Appeal in Akure, which found in favor of the local government executives, ordering their reinstatement to their respective councils.
The chairmen and councillors returned to their council headquarters, where they were escorted by security operatives to prevent any potential disruptions or breakdowns of law and order.
The security presence ensured that the transition occurred smoothly, as there had been concerns over potential conflicts following the legal decision.
The reinstatement comes after a legal battle over the termination of the officials’ tenure by Governor Adeleke’s administration in 2022, which was deemed unlawful by the Court of Appeal. This ruling effectively overturned the governor’s actions, leading to the re-establishment of the local government leaders in their official positions.
