Prosecutors told the court that the video contained statements considered to be a threat to Seyi Tinubu’s life, contrary to the Criminal Law of Lagos State and the Cybercrime (Prohibition, Prevention, etc.) Act, 2015.

Following widespread criticism, DJ Chicken released another video, insisting the remarks were only a joke intended to attract attention. He maintained that he had no intention of harming Seyi Tinubu and described the comments as part of his content creation.

Despite the apology and retraction, the Lagos State Government proceeded with the prosecution.

The first charge alleges that he used his social media accounts to issue a death threat against Seyi Tinubu, while the second accuses him of transmitting a grossly offensive and menacing message through a computer network in violation of the Cybercrime Act. The third charge alleges that his actions were capable of causing a breach of peace and were intended to intimidate or embarrass Seyi Tinubu.

DJ Chicken pleaded not guilty to all the charges.

The court granted him bail in the sum of N1 million with two sureties in like sum. One surety must be a government employee, while the other must be a recognised community leader who owns landed property in Lagos State. Both sureties are required to present three years’ tax clearance, LASRRA identification, National Identification Number (NIN), and recent utility bills. The court also directed that one of the sureties must be a blood relative of the defendant.

Unable to meet the bail conditions immediately, DJ Chicken was remanded at the Kirikiri Correctional Centre pending the perfection of his bail.

The matter was adjourned until August 3, 2026, for further hearing.
