An Ikeja High Court on Tuesday struck out a defamation suit filed against influencer, VeryDarkMan (VDM)

The suit was instituted by prominent human rights lawyer Femi Falana (SAN) and his son, musician Folarin Falana, also known as Falz, over a video VDM shared on social media. The duo demanded N500 million each in damages.
The lawsuit followed an audio recording made by cross-dresser Bobrisky, in which he accused the Falanas of perverting justice — a claim VDM amplified in a social media video.
When the case was called, neither the claimants nor the defendant were present. However, VDM’s counsel, Niyi Alagbe, appearing for Marvin Omorogbe, informed the court that a stay of proceedings application had already been filed before Justice Fimisola Azeez.
Falana’s counsel, Omotayo Olatunbosun, confirmed receiving the application late Monday but argued that the matter scheduled for hearing was a preliminary objection, accusing the defense of trying to stall the case.
Justice Matthias Dawodu, who presided over the hearing, noted that the application was not in the court file and questioned why the case was before him when the main suit was pending before another judge.
He ruled: “Insistence on going ahead with the suit would amount to an academic exercise since the substantive suit is before another judge. Consequently, this suit is hereby struck out.”
