Activist Aisha Yesufu has criticised the criminalisation of spraying Naira notes at social events, describing the decision as “one of the dumbest things ever”
In a post shared on her official X handle on Monday, Yesufu questioned the rationale behind banning a cultural practice that, according to her, neither taints nor damages the currency.
“The money was never spoilt. It was still packed up and used,” she said. “Spraying gave colour to ceremonies and was such a Nigerian thing—one that was even being replicated in other parts of the world.”
