Cristiano Ronaldo opened the new Saudi Pro League season by scoring his 977th career goal as Al-Nassr thrashed Al-Diriyah 4-0 on Friday
The 41-year-old Portugal captain came off the bench and needed only 21 minutes to make his mark, scoring Al-Nassr’s fourth goal in the 83rd minute after earlier strikes had put the hosts in control.
The goal also delivered a historic milestone, making Ronaldo the first footballer to score in 25 consecutive seasons. His latest effort leaves him just 23 goals away from the 1,000-goal mark.
Ronaldo’s tally has been built across a career spanning Sporting Lisbon, Manchester United, Real Madrid, Juventus, Al-Nassr and Portugal, with his latest chapter in Saudi Arabia continuing to add to an already extraordinary goalscoring record.
At 977 goals, the 1,000 mark is now no longer a distant ambition but the defining target of Ronaldo’s next stretch of matches. With 23 goals separating him from the landmark, every appearance will carry the possibility of another piece of history.
