Dangote asks EFCC to investigate Farouk Ahmed

Aliko Dangote, president of Dangote Group, has formally asked the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to open an investigation into Farouk Ahmed, the former chief executive officer of the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA)

Dangote accused Ahmed of abuse of office, corrupt enrichment and maintaining a lifestyle far beyond what his legitimate earnings as a public servant could support.

The fresh request comes weeks after Dangote had, in December 2025, submitted a petition against Ahmed to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) through his lawyer, Ogwu Onoja, alleging corruption and financial impropriety. Ahmed later resigned from his position on December 17 following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu.

On January 7, Dangote withdrew the ICPC petition, only to file a new one with the EFCC, urging its chairman, Ola Olukoyede, to probe Ahmed over alleged financial misconduct, violations of the code of conduct for public officers and related offences.

“We make bold to state that the commission is strategically positioned along with sister agencies to prosecute financial crimes and corruption related offences and upon establishing a prima facie case, the courts do not hesitate to punish offenders. See Lawan v. F.R.N (2024) 12 NWLR (Pt. 1953) 501 and Shema v. F.R.N. (2018) 9 NWLR (Pt.1624)337.”

In the petition, Dangote alleged that Ahmed spent more than $7 million on the education of his four children — Faisal Farouk at Montreux School, Farouk Jr. at Aiglon College, Ashraf Farouk at Institut Le Rosey, and Farhana Farouk at La Garenne International School — all in Switzerland over a six-year period.

According to Dangote, the scale of the spending significantly exceeds what Ahmed could have earned through legitimate income during his years in public service, raising serious questions about the source of the funds.
