Dangote Petroleum Refinery has resumed selling petrol in naira, just a day after halting the initiative

In an email to clients on Saturday, the refinery said the move followed federal government intervention.

“Following the intervention of the Naira for Crude Technical Committee chairman, we are pleased to inform you of the resumption of PMS sales in naira commencing immediately,” the email stated.

“You may kindly proceed to place your orders in naira for both self-collection and free delivery of PMS to the earlier advised locations across the country.”

Dangote had suspended naira-denominated petrol sales on Friday, citing the depletion of its crude-for-naira allocation.

Nigeria launched the crude-for-naira scheme on October 1, 2024, to improve local supply, save foreign exchange on imports, and ease pump prices.

On March 10, 2025, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC) Limited suspended the deal until 2030 after forward-selling all its crude oil.

Days later, Dangote refinery announced a temporary halt in naira sales. However, on April 9, the federal government confirmed the scheme would continue beyond its first phase, which ended on March 31.

Finance minister Wale Edun later said further updates on the initiative would be shared in due course.
