Former England football captain and global style icon David Beckham has officially been knighted for his contributions to sport and charity

The honour, conferred as part of King Charles III’s Birthday Honours list, means the 50-year-old will now be addressed as Sir David Beckham, while his wife, former Spice Girl and fashion mogul Victoria, becomes Lady Beckham.
Beckham, who earned 115 caps for England and starred at elite clubs including Manchester United and Real Madrid, was previously named an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in 2003. Victoria Beckham later received the same honour for her achievements in the fashion industry.
Reacting to the knighthood, Beckham said:
“Growing up in East London with parents and grandparents who were so patriotic and proud to be British, I never could have imagined I would receive such a truly humbling honour.
I’m so lucky to be able to do the work that I do and I’m grateful to be recognised for work that gives me so much fulfilment.”
Also knighted were rock legend Roger Daltrey of The Who and acclaimed actor Gary Oldman.
Daltrey, 81, who co-founded The Who in 1964, was honoured for his services to music and charity. He has served as a patron of the Teenage Cancer Trust since 2000, organizing fundraising concerts at the Royal Albert Hall for over 20 years.
