Davido has shared the reason behind his father, Adedeji Adeleke’s, intervention in his first professional recording contract

According to Davido, his father bought him out of the deal with Black Diamond in 2011 because he wanted him to retain ownership of his music masters.
The revelation came after Davido’s former record label boss, Tosin Ashafa, shared a 2019 tweet about how he gave Davido his first professional contract and how his father reacted to it.
Davido responded to the tweet, clarifying that the incident occurred in 2011, not 2019.
Davido explained that his father’s decision to buy him out of the contract was motivated by a desire to give him full control over his music.
This was particularly evident after Davido played his father a snippet of his hit song “Dami Duro” video, which convinced his father that it was “game time” for his son’s music career.
Ashafa responded to Davido’s comments, expressing pride in the singer’s achievements and acknowledging that his talent was “unstoppable.”
