Afrobeats singer Davido has spoken about his journey, saying he believes his story stands out because he built a successful career while coming from a wealthy background.
Speaking during his appearance on the Vibe Podcast, the singer said many people often celebrate stories of people who started with nothing and went on to become successful. However, he believes his own path is different because he was able to create his own identity despite being the son of a billionaire.
Davido explained that he has worked to make a name for himself rather than simply relying on his family’s wealth.
He said:
“Africans usually like the grass to grace story, the young boy that was poor and became rich.. but not to brag, which other billionaire’s child do you know in the world, I am not talking about Africa that has made a name for himself and also made a lot of money? You can’t name one apart from me.”
The singer said his success is something he takes pride in, noting that building a career and earning recognition on his own terms has been an important part of his story.
