Dayo Amusa has addressed the backlash over a post that appeared on her social media page while the Yoruba movie industry was mourning veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo.
The actress explained that the post was not newly made. She said it had been scheduled long before news of Ogogo’s death and was only published automatically while people were mourning him.
Dayo said she only became aware of the post after someone close to her called to question why she had shared such content at that time.
She said she checked her page and was surprised to find that the scheduled post had already attracted more than 100,000 comments, including insults and messages wishing her death.
She further explained that Ogogo was not someone she would intentionally disrespect, describing him as someone who was like a father, uncle, friend and confidant to her.
In a post she shared, she said:
“This man in question, is like my father, he was my uncle, friend, confidant but it’s so funny how u people think u love him or more concerned of him than me or we in the industry.”
Dayo also spoke about how deeply the actor’s de.ath had affected her, saying she had been struggling emotionally despite being outside Nigeria.
“I have been terrible down despite I’m not currently in Nigeria, but his d.eath has br0ken my spirit that I don’t know when I slept in where I was thinking”, she said.
She then urged people to be mindful of how they address others online, particularly when emotions are already high.
“You people who think u can talk but insul.t!ng and trolling people behind ur keyboards, you all better be careful”, she added.
