The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) in Ebonyi State has officially suspended the one-week warning strike that commenced on December 2, 2024
In a statement issued on Monday, the Union leadership disclosed that the decision followed a comprehensive review meeting by the State Executive Committee.
The suspension, communicated to all affiliate unions of the NLC and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), cited the State government’s dedication to negotiations. Since December 7, 2024, the government has actively engaged the Union in extensive dialogue sessions.
The statement highlighted the government’s willingness to sign an agreement with the NLC based on verified facts. It also noted the Governor’s appeal for the temporary acceptance of the October and November 2024 salary payment table, pending a financial review aimed at improving the State’s capacity.
The Governor further reassured his commitment to enhancing the welfare of Ebonyi workers.
Following deliberations during a meeting on December 9, 2024, the Union unanimously resolved to suspend the strike action. Workers have been directed to resume their duties while discussions on welfare improvements, in line with the new minimum wage act, continue.
The NLC also expressed gratitude to workers for their unwavering commitment and solidarity throughout the strike period.
