There was a brief moment of drama at the Edo State House of Assembly when Governor Monday Okpebholo struggled to pronounce the figures for the state’s 2025 budget

A video of the governor repeatedly stuttering over the numbers quickly went viral on social media, sparking a wide range of reactions across the country.
On Tuesday, Governor Okpebholo presented a proposed budget of N605 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, titled “Budget of Renewed Hope for a Rising Edo,” reflecting a 25 percent increase compared to the 2024 budget.
During his presentation, the governor struggled to pronounce the N605 billion figure but continued with his speech despite the brief setback.
He explained that 37 percent of the budget, or N223 billion, would be allocated to recurrent expenditure, while the remaining N381 billion (63 percent) would be directed toward capital projects.
“This budget is a product of extensive consultations and reflects my administration’s commitment to achieving its five-point agenda: security, infrastructural development, healthcare, food sufficiency, and education,” Okpebholo said.
The governor also highlighted that N162 billion would be dedicated to road infrastructure as part of key development initiatives.
