Apostle Kassy Chukwu, the Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo’s Senior Special Assistant on Digital Media, has thre.atened singer Davido over comments the musician made about the governor.
The dispute started after Okpebholo criticised Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke during the state’s governorship campaign. Davido, who is Adeleke’s nephew, responded by defending his uncle and taking aim at Okpebholo.
Davido questioned Okpebholo’s record and shared what appeared to be the governor’s WAEC result.
He also questioned why Okpebholo left Edo to campaign in Osun and criticised him for describing Adeleke as a dancer.
In a post on his page, he said:
“Yes, and you came, you left your state, you came to another state. You came in and then started talking that my uncle is a dancer; he is not serious. First of all, you were not even elected; you were selected.”
Davido went further, questioning the governor’s understanding of electoral victory.
“You don’t know what it means to win an election. That’s why you could go there and talk”,he said.
He also criticised Okpebholo over his reported accommodation, saying, “A whole governor staying in a hotel, walking around like…”
Davido then warned the governor that he would face political opposition when it was time for another election.
“In fact, finish your three years, we’ll visit you when it’s time for you to get re-elected”, he said.
He later made it clear that he had no plans to apologise for his comments when he was being asked during a conversation.
“I’m not going to apologise. I didn’t do anything wrong. I was just telling people of the state the results their governor has,” Davido said.
It was against this background that Chukwu reacted, accusing Davido of disrespecting the Edo governor and announcing that the singer had been banned from performing in the state.
He a post, the aide said:
“Since You don’t respect your elders by insulting the governor of this state, you have been banned from coming to perform in Edo state. If we catch you, we will tell boys to remove your teeth with slaps. I don’t blame you, I blame Isreal DMW that is giving you the effrontery to be insulting our governor, the best governor.”
Chukwu also brought Davido’s associate, Isreal DMW, into the dispute, blaming him for allegedly giving the singer the confidence to speak against Okpebholo.
