Edo indigene, Benson Ojeikere appointed as Abia State Head Of Service

Governor Alex Otti has sworn in Benson Ojeikere, an indigene of Edo State, as the new Head of Service for Abia State

Ojeikere first came to Abia as a youth corps member in the late 1990s, where his outstanding performance earned him automatic employment in the state’s civil service. Rising through the ranks, he was appointed Permanent Secretary in 2023 under Governor Otti’s administration.

His appointment as Head of Service was based on merit and competence, following an exemplary performance in the selection process. The state government highlighted this decision as part of Governor Otti’s commitment to meritocracy and his philosophy, “If you live in Abia, you are Abian.”

This reflects the spirit of unity and integration captured in the National Anthem’s words: “Though Tribe and Tongue May Differ, In Brotherhood We Stand.”

During the ceremony, Governor Otti congratulated Ojeikere and urged him to transform the State Civil Service into a more efficient and effective institution.

In his acceptance speech, Ojeikere expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and pledged to reposition the State Civil Service into a model admired by other states.

The appointment has drawn widespread praise, with many urging other governors to adopt similar actions as a means of fostering national unity and integration.
