In a statement released by the state police spokesman, Eno Ikoedem, the command said the suspects were apprehended following an investigation and would be charged to the family court under laws governing juvenile justice and child protection.

The statement read:

“The Edo State Police Command wishes to update the public on the viral bullying incident that has caused widespread concern across the state. Following a thorough investigation, all individuals connected to the case have been identified, arrested, and will be charged to the family court in line with existing juvenile justice and child protection laws.

“Preliminary findings indicate the incident began on Thursday, 5/03/2026, when two 14-year-old female students had a disagreement with a fellow student. During the argument, the student allegedly made offensive remarks about their late father, reportedly saying, ‘Ogun kill your papa.’

“Angered by the comment, the girls attacked the student after school. A parent who came to pick up her son intervened but was reportedly confronted and had her clothes pulled by the two girls. The school later expelled the girls for violent conduct.

“The following day, 06/03/2026, a male student, whose mother had been attacked in the earlier incident, allegedly retaliated by assaulting the victim seen in the viral video. This act has been described as revenge and was recorded by a student. The victim is the brother of the girls who had attacked his mother.

“The Commissioner of Police has directed the immediate intensification of the Operation Safe Schools Initiative across Edo State secondary schools, aiming to close supervision gaps and prevent similar incidents.

“Additionally, the Police Campaign Against Cultism and Other Vices has been mobilised to engage school administrators and students through advocacy, sensitisation, and reorientation programmes.

“The Command urges parents, guardians, and school authorities to take greater responsibility in supervising and guiding their children, and advises students to avoid violence and report grievances through proper channels.

“The public is advised to remain calm as the police continue to take proactive measures to ensure justice is served and to prevent recurrence. The Command remains committed to maintaining law and order and safeguarding all residents, especially children.”
