Edo police arrest TikToker over false k!nap claims

A social media post that sparked fear among residents of Edo State has resulted in the arrest of its author after police investigations reportedly found the claims to be false.

The suspect, identified as TikToker Uzebor Emmanuel, widely known online as “Aza Woman,” was apprehended by operatives of the Edo State Police Command following the circulation of alarming reports about alleged student a.bductions in parts of Benin City.

Authorities said the viral content suggested that several individuals, including students linked to Green Park Academy and Western Boys’ College, had been k!dnapped and transported in mini buses. The reports also claimed that some victims escaped while others regained freedom after ransom payments.

However, police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem stated that investigators found no evidence to support the allegations. She explained that the misleading posts generated widespread concern among residents and fueled unnecessary tension across the state.

With investigations still ongoing, the command said the suspect will face prosecution at the conclusion of the case.

The police also reminded the public to confirm the authenticity of sensitive information before sharing it, warning that false reports can threaten public peace and create avoidable panic.
