The Edo State Government has officially declared an outbreak of dengue fever, following a sharp increase in confirmed 86 cases across several local government areas

The announcement was made by the Commissioner for Health, Dr. Cyril Oshiomhole, during a press briefing in Benin City, the state capital.
According to him, 86 cases of dengue fever have been confirmed so far. While the number of related deaths is still being verified, he described the situation as alarming and in need of immediate, coordinated action.
“We have confirmed 86 cases of dengue fever across several LGAs. While the number of deaths is still under verification, the trend is worrisome and calls for decisive, collective action,” Dr. Oshiomhole stated.
Alongside the dengue outbreak, the Commissioner also reported on other infectious disease cases in the state. These include:
- 137 cases of Lassa Fever, with 24 deaths
- 2 confirmed cases of Yellow Fever, resulting in 1 death
- 8 cases of Mpox
- 8 confirmed cases of Diphtheria, with 3 deaths
The state has activated its Emergency Operations Centre and launched a comprehensive response plan.
