Education: Many parents are not ready for this discussion yet
A twitter user, Kelvin Odanz, brought this to the attention of many, and I totally agree many parents are not ready for this discussion.
But the truth is, it is something parents must take seriously. N400k is still good, but in reality, school fees run into millions yearly!
Odanz’s tweets;
”You pay 400k per term for your child’s school fees and the school is located in the posh area of Maitama or Garki. Then your child’s school hires teachers living in Nyanya and pays them 50k per month Salary. And you think the quality of education you pay for is worth 400k?
”Someone was tweeted here that the quality of education your child gets in most of these expensive schools is directly proportional to the salary/welfare of the teachers the school employs.
If your child’s teacher earns 50k per month, you’re paying for a 50k quality of education
”It isn’t so surprising that you’d find kids attending 400k schools and then end up needing extra private lessons after school, especially from the same teachers who teach them in regular school hours. The teachers use money made off extra lessons to compensate for poor pay
”Anyway, just an advice that parents should be interested in the welfare of the teachers in schools their kids attend. Don’t leave them at the mercy of profiteering school owners such that they’d rely on extra lesson fees to make up for poor salary. Their welfare affects your kids”
Underline the last line; Their welfare affects your kids
