Former Akwa Ibom State Governor Udom Emmanuel has been arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) over allegations of misappropriating N700 billion during his tenure

Emmanuel arrived at the EFCC headquarters in Abuja around 12:30 p.m. today in response to an invitation but was subsequently detained. His arrest follows a petition by the Network Against Corruption and Trafficking (NACAT), which accused him of financial mismanagement while in office from 2015 to 2023.
The petition alleges that Emmanuel received N3 trillion from the Federation Account over eight years but left Akwa Ibom with a debt profile of N500 billion and unfinished projects worth N300 billion. He is also accused of failing to account for N700 billion in state funds.
As of now, the EFCC has not issued an official statement on the arrest.
