The operatives were said to have stormed the students’ lodges around Orita Obele, Roadblock area of the city at about 2:00 am, broke into rooms, and arrested the students, who were suspected to be involved in internet fraud.

It was gathered that many of the students initially thought the operatives were kidnappers until much later when they found that they were EFCC officials, from the Benin Zonal Command of the commission.

In a telephone conversation with Channels Television on Wednesday, the Director of Corporate Communications and Protocol of FUTA, Adegbenro Adebanjo, said the arrests were not carried out within or around the campus of the university.

He stated that it is yet to be confirmed whether the persons arrested are students of FUTA, adding that the university’s management will soon react officially to the incident.
