The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has filed 16 new charges against Yahaya Bello, the immediate past Governor of Kogi State, before an FCT High Court

These charges are related to alleged fraud totaling N110.4 billion.
According to the EFCC, Bello, alongside co-defendants Umar Shuaibu Oricha and Abdulsalam Hudu, allegedly conspired to commit criminal breach of trust involving the misappropriation of public funds.
This development comes after Bello’s absence at a Federal High Court session in Abuja, where he was being tried for alleged fraud totaling N80.2 billion.
The fresh charges are part of the EFCC’s ongoing efforts to hold public officials accountable for their actions.
The commission’s counsel, comprising Kemi Pinheiro, Rotimi Oyedepo, and seven other lawyers, filed the charges.
The EFCC alleges that the defendants committed the offense in 2016, while Bello was still in office.
The charge sheet partially reads:
“That you, Yahaya Adoza Bello, Umar Shuaibu Oricha, and Abdulsalam Hudu, sometimes in 2016 in Abuja, within the jurisdictions of this Honourable Court, agreed amongst yourselves to cause to be done an illegal act, to wit: criminal breach of trust in respect of the total sum of N110,446,470,089.00 entrusted to you.”
The case is ongoing, with further updates to come as the trial unfolds.
