Former Group Managing Director of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPC), Mele Kyari, is being questioned by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) in Abuja
Kyari was invited on Wednesday to respond to questions on financial and technical matters related to his time in office.
Sources within the EFCC confirmed that he is currently with investigators at the agency’s headquarters.
This comes amid ongoing investigations into alleged irregularities in the management of funds allocated for Nigeria’s refineries.
Kyari had previously been placed on the EFCC watch list in connection with a $7.2 billion refinery turnaround maintenance project.
A Federal High Court in Abuja recently ordered the temporary freezing of four bank accounts linked to him pending the outcome of the probe.
Mele Kyari served as GMD of NNPC from 2019 until July 2024, during which the corporation was transformed into a limited liability company.
