Egypt has raised its fuel prices as part of its commitment to an IMF agreement to align its domestic prices with international markets

The price adjustments include a rise of 1.00 Egyptian pound ($0.02) per litre for petrol, with varying rates based on different octane levels. Diesel prices have also increased, and there has been a significant hike in the price of butane cooking gas.

The IMF argues that subsidized fuel prices mainly benefit the wealthy, neglecting the majority of the population who do not own vehicles. In response, the pricing committee has aimed to rectify this imbalance by adjusting prices accordingly.

These price hikes may pose challenges for consumers, but they are part of broader economic reforms aimed at strengthening Egypt’s economy.
