Eight people were k!lled on Monday in Niger State after the vehicle they were traveling in struck an improvised explosive device (IED)

According to Punch, the IED had been planted by terrorists who previously used a similar device to destroy a bridge along Luma Road in Borgu LGA, linking Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities.

The bridge is a key route, especially for traders and commuters heading to the Babana major border market held every Monday.

The incident occurred when a vehicle traveling between Nuku and Woro ran over the IED.

Niger State Police Command spokesman Wasiu Abiodun confirmed the bombing and said security forces are carrying out a clearance operation.

“On 23rd March 2026 at about 6.30 am, a report revealed that earlier, at about 2 am on the same date, suspected terrorists in the park forest used an explosive device to bomb a bridge located along Luma Road, Borgu LGA, connecting Luma, Babana, and Agwara communities,” Abiodun said.
