Elephants Kill 350 Indians Every Year- New Report

At least 350 people are killed in India each year by
elephants, according to a government-backed study.
Crops covering about 13,000 hectares of land were also
damaged by elephants in 2013-14, according to the study by BM Arora, president
of the Association of Indian Zoo and Wildlife Veterinarians.
Electric fences and deep ditches were inadequate to keep the
pachyderms out of agricultural fields, he stated.
Regularly built without the participation of locals, the
fences are often poorly constructed and not properly checked. Some 30,000
elephants live in India, according to official figures, and the numbers are
    growing.

Animal campaigners estimate that between 2008 and 2011 some
121 elephants were killed in the wild in India, with another 50 dying in road
accidents and 111 dying because of electric shocks. However 350 Indians are
killed each year by the elephants.
