Pastor Emmanuel Iren has raised a question about how people relate to wealth, comfort and the things they spend money on every day.
Using a simple example of someone sitting comfortably in an SUV with the air conditioner running while bargaining over the price of plantain, he questioned whether people sometimes hold on too tightly to worldly ways of thinking even when they have more than enough.
Speaking during a church service, he said:
“Do you know you can be so wealthy but you’re so ingratiated into the worldly system that in your SUV you have the audacity to wind down your window with your AC and you’re pricing plantain. Why are you pricing plantain? You want God to pun!$h you?”
His point was less about the plantain itself and more about the mindset that can come with wealth, comfort and the fear of spending. He appeared to be challenging people to think about whether their approach to money reflects the level of abundance they already have.
