French President Emmanuel Macron and First Lady Brigitte Macron have filed a defamation lawsuit in the U.S. against conservative commentator Candace Owens, accusing her of spreading false and harmful claims that Brigitte was born a man

.
Filed in Delaware, the 218-page lawsuit lists 22 counts, alleging that Owens repeatedly pushed unfounded conspiracy theories, including that Brigitte Macron is transgender, was involved in incest, and part of CIA mind-control operations.
In the legal filing, the Macrons describe Owens’ actions as “relentless bullying” and part of a coordinated smear campaign designed to damage their personal and public image.
President Macron’s legal team called the case “clear-cut,” asserting that the falsehoods went beyond free speech protections and caused serious harm to the First Lady’s reputation.
Owens, in response, stood by her claims, citing the First Amendment. “See you in court,” she wrote on social media, dismissing the lawsuit as a PR stunt by the French president.
If successful, this case could set a precedent for how high-profile defamation involving global political figures is treated under American law.
