Emmanuel Obasi has reacted after his former wife, Nollywood actress Judy Austin filed a N1 billion defamation suit against him
The legal action followed a series of public allegations and statements Obasi has made concerning their former marriage, their children and Austin’s relationship with actor Yul Edochie.
Austin is seeking ₦1 billion in damages, along with other reliefs, over statements she considers defamatory.
Reacting, Obasi appeared unfazed by the lawsuit. He questioned where Austin expected to get the 1 billion from and maintained that he would continue speaking about his experiences, even if it eventually landed him in prison.
He also insisted that his priority was regaining access to his children, saying he was prepared to face whatever consequences came with speaking out.
In an extract from the video, Obasi said:
“My ex-wife, Judy, sued me for ₦1 billion for defamation. She has seen the Central Bank; I will never keep quiet. Let them send me to prison or let me get my children back because I know what I went through to have them… She is claiming that I defamed her, so when did telling the truth become defamation?”The lawsuit marks another major development in the long-running dispute between the former couple, which has increasingly played out in the public space. Austin has previously rejected several of Obasi’s claims about their past, while Obasi has continued to maintain his own account of what happened.
The matter is now before the court, where the allegations and Austin’s claims of defamation can be formally addressed.
