Ruslan Obiang Nsue, son of President Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, is facing trial in Malabo over allegations that he illegally sold an ATR 72-500 aircraft belonging to the state-owned airline, Ceiba Intercontinental

Prosecutors are seeking an 18-year prison term and a fine of 500 million CFA francs (about $850,000). Ruslan, a former deputy director of the airline, admitted signing a contract to sell the plane to Spain’s Binter Technic for €250,000, but said he only received €125,000, which he transferred to his bank account in Spain.

The case began after the aircraft disappeared while undergoing maintenance in Spain. His arrest in January 2023 followed an investigation launched in late 2022. The trial has been suspended, and no verdict date has been set.
