Former Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has been named the new technical director of FC Twente, marking a return to the club where his football journey first began
Ten Hag’s most recent coaching spell ended abruptly at Bayer Leverkusen, where he was dismissed in September after just three matches. The 55-year-old managed only one point from his opening two Bundesliga games and was relieved of his duties following a third outing.
Expressing his excitement about the appointment, Ten Hag said: “I think it’s wonderful and special to return to FC Twente, where I’ve been a supporter at Het Diekman since I was a young boy. My football and coaching careers began here.”
Ten Hag started his professional playing career with Twente in 1989 and brought it to a close at the club in 2002, making his latest role a homecoming both professionally and personally.
