Mrs. Edna Ibru, former Miss Nigeria and wife of Delta State’s first executive governor, Olorogun Felix Ibru, has passed away in London following a brief illness
She died on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, at the age of 80.
The news of her death was announced by her son, Dr. Paul Aidido Ibru, in a heartfelt statement released on Saturday. Dr. Ibru described his mother as a loving and compassionate woman whose unexpected passing has left a void in the family.
“Our amazing mother passed into glory on Wednesday, January 15, 2025, after a brief illness,” the statement read. “She was full of life, and we never expected her to leave us so soon, but we cannot question the will of God. She was outrageously humorous, deeply caring, down-to-earth, and a mother to many. We will miss her dearly.”
Mrs. Ibru, crowned Miss Nigeria in 1964, made history as the first African to represent the continent at the Miss Universe pageant. She later served as First Lady of Delta State and was a notable public figure who impacted many lives.
She is survived by her two children, Paul and Sheri Felix Ibru. The family plans to announce funeral arrangements soon.
