The Football Association is reportedly preparing to sanction Taiwo Awoniyi over his recent goal celebration where he unveiled the message “God is the Greatest.”
Awoniyi, who features for Nottingham Forest and Nigeria’s Super Eagles, displayed the inscription after finding the net in a Premier League match, an act that has now drawn scrutiny from English football authorities.

Under FA rules, players are not allowed to reveal political, religious, or personal messages during matches, whether through undershirts or celebratory gestures. The regulation is designed to keep the game neutral and prevent potential controversy on the pitch.
Reports suggest the FA has begun reviewing the incident and could respond with a warning, fine, or other disciplinary action in line with its guidelines.
The situation has divided opinion among fans and analysts. While some believe Awoniyi’s gesture was an expression of personal faith that should be respected, others insist that the rules must be applied consistently to maintain order and fairness in the sport.
