James Aiyepeku, father of 26-year-old photojournalist Ayo Aiyepeku who was m#rdered in Lokoja, Kogi State, has passed away just days after collapsing from shock and grief
The family confirmed his d3ath to TVC News on Tuesday, August 12, 2025.

Ayo, an indigene of Ekinrin Adde in Ijumu Local Government Area of Kogi State, was allegedly lured and killed by a correctional service officer, Adebayo Pelumi. The suspect reportedly fled with Ayo’s body, prompting a police manhunt.
Pelumi was later found dead in a Lokoja hotel, with a bottle of poison and a handwritten note discovered at the scene, suggesting suicide. Days later, Ayo’s remains were recovered by security operatives in a bush along the Crusher axis of Lokoja and deposited at the Specialist Hospital in the state capital.
Before his own death, James Aiyepeku, visibly heartbroken, had appealed to authorities to ensure justice for his son’s murder. Investigations into the case are still ongoing.
