Nigerian sprint sensation Favour Ofili has officially requested to switch her nationality to Turkey, citing years of alleged neglect and administrative failures by the Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) and the Nigerian Olympic Committee (NOC)
The 22-year-old’s decision comes after yet another controversy during the 2024 Olympics in Paris, where she was left out of the 100m event despite meeting the qualifying standard. This was not the first time Ofili was affected by administrative lapses — a similar incident at the Tokyo 2020 Olympics also denied her the opportunity to compete.
Ofili has now notified the Athletics Integrity Unit (AIU) of her intention to represent Turkey and detailed the reasons behind the move.
Widely regarded as one of Nigeria’s top track stars, Ofili holds personal bests of 10.93 seconds in the 100m and 21.96 seconds in the 200m.
