Femi Adesina, former Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to late President Muhammadu Buhari, has debunked rumours of divorce between Aisha Buhari and the former late president, saying she was with him before his d3ath

Adesina, who served in Buhari’s administration from 2015 to 2023, made the disclosure in a tribute, stating that Aisha was present during the former president’s last visit to his Kaduna residence before he departed for London on a medical trip.
His remarks come in response to widespread speculation and claims by U.S.-based scholar Professor Farooq Kperogi, who alleged that Aisha had divorced Buhari, moved out of their home, and reverted to her maiden name, Halilu. Kperogi claimed she even refused to accompany Buhari to London when his health deteriorated because she was no longer his wife.
“Buhari was also alone when he later relocated to Kaduna,” Kperogi had alleged. “When he fell ill and it was suggested that Aisha travel to London to care for him, she reportedly hesitated because she was no longer his wife.”
But Adesina contradicted those claims, recounting a personal encounter with both the former president and his wife shortly before Buhari’s final trip abroad.
“It was Ramadan, and I joined him for dinner. The former First Lady, Aisha, was around and offered me some roasted meat (suya),” Adesina wrote. “Less than two weeks later, he travelled to London for what was said to be a routine medical trip. It lasted almost four months and he never returned—at least not alive.”
President Muhammadu Buhari died in London in June 2025 after a prolonged medical stay.
