The Federal Government has graduated 7,000 newly trained Forest Guards in a coordinated ceremony held on Saturday across seven northern states

The parades took place simultaneously in Borno, Sokoto, Yobe, Adamawa, Niger, Kwara, and Kebbi, organized by the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Environment, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the National Park Service.

The initiative aims to strengthen environmental security and enhance the protection of Nigeria’s forest reserves and national parks. The deployment of the trained guards will also support efforts against illegal logging, wildlife trafficking, and other environmental crimes, while complementing broader national security operations.

The graduates received specialised training from both security and environmental agencies to prepare them for frontline duties in forest communities and protected areas.

Officials noted that the joint approach is intended to improve intelligence-sharing, inter-agency collaboration, and security presence in remote areas prone to criminal activity.

The newly trained Forest Guards are set to be deployed to their duty stations in the coming weeks.
