The Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has confirmed that Arik Air’s fleet was grounded due to a $2.5 million debt owed to Atlas Petroleum International Ltd., as ruled by the Supreme Court
The debt led to the attachment of Arik Air’s aircraft, and a public auction was scheduled for July 26, 2024, if the debt remained unsettled.
Despite Arik Air’s appeals, the Supreme Court denied leave to appeal on January 9, 2024, leading to the registration of the judgment with the FCT High Court.
NAMA grounded the aircraft to prevent tampering and ensure compliance with the Supreme Court’s ruling.
The agency urges all parties to resolve their issues promptly to allow Arik Air’s fleet to resume operations.
