FIFA has officially cleared goalkeeper Arthur Okonkwo to represent Nigeria at international level.

The Wrexham AFC shot-stopper’s switch from England was approved on April 6 and is now reflected on FIFA’s records, making him available for selection by Super Eagles coach Eric Chelle and the Nigeria Football Federation’s technical crew.

Okonkwo previously featured for England at youth level, earning 10 caps across different age groups. He made five appearances at the U-16 and U-17 levels, before adding another five for the U-19 side between 2016 and 2019.

Nigeria had been monitoring the former Arsenal Academy goalkeeper, particularly after his standout displays for Wrexham. The 24-year-old has been instrumental in the club’s progress, playing a major role in their climb from the National League to the Championship with three straight promotions.

This season, he ranks among the top goalkeepers for clean sheets, boasting a 68 per cent save rate, and has accumulated 40 clean sheets over three seasons with the club.
