Filling stations begin reducing petrol price

Nigerian filling stations have begun reducing petrol prices following a further drop in the landing cost of premium motor spirit, which now sits below Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot rate

Daily Post correspondents reported on Wednesday that major stations in Abuja, including NIPCO, AA Rano, Eterna, and Empire Energy, have lowered their fuel pump prices.

NIPCO and AA Rano cut their petrol prices to N940 per litre, down from N950–N955. Eterna and Empire Energy now sell at N945 and N955 per litre, reduced from N955 and N959, respectively. This reflects a decrease of between N4 and N10 per litre at Abuja filling stations.

Earlier, NNPCL outlets in the city also adjusted their price to N945 per litre from N955.

However, some stations, including MRS (Dangote Petrol) and Ranoil, have maintained their prices at N950 and N955 per litre, with an MRS manager saying anonymously, “We may reduce our price in the evening, but at the moment we still dispense fuel at N950 per litre.”

The price cuts follow data from the Major Energy Marketers Association of Nigeria on November 3, 2025, showing the landing cost of petrol dropped to N827.04 per litre from N829.77 at the end of last month.

Ex-depot prices from major refiners showed Dangote Refinery at N872 per litre, Pinnacle at N872, NIPCO at N870, BOVAS at N870, Aiteo at N870, and AA Rano at N870. The current landing cost of N827.04 is N44.96 lower than Dangote Refinery’s ex-depot price.

Meanwhile, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu recently approved a 15 percent import duty on petrol and diesel to support Dangote Refinery. Analysts warn that once implemented, the tax could push up the cost of imported fuel in the coming days.
