Nigerian football has been rocked by the sudden resignation of Finidi George, the head coach of the Super Eagles, just a month after his appointment

According to renowned journalist Tobi Adepoju, Finidi submitted his letter of resignation to the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) following a dramatic demotion to assistant coach.
The NFF had announced plans to appoint a foreign coach to lead the team, citing disappointing results in the World Cup qualifiers.
Nigeria’s underwhelming performance, including a draw with South Africa and a loss to Benin Republic, left them trailing in their group and dimmed their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
Finidi George exit accelerates the search for a new head coach, with the team set to resume action in September for the Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
