Several people have d!ed and others were injured after a fire erupted during a New Year’s party at an Alpine ski resort in southern Switzerland
Valais police spokesperson Gaetan Lathion confirmed the incident.
“This morning, January 1, 2026, a fire broke out around 1:30 a.m. at Le Constellation lounge bar in Crans-Montana, in the canton of Valais. There are several injuries and several fatalities,” he said.
Authorities have not yet released exact numbers of those killed or injured, nor have they provided details on what caused the blaze. The area is known for its luxury holiday resorts.
A press conference with police and the canton’s public prosecutor is scheduled for around 10 a.m. local time (4 a.m. ET).
