First case of Monkeypox has been DETECTED outside Africa
Sweden’s Public Health Agency said in a press conference this afternoon that it has monitored a case of the more infectious variant of the disease – also known as mpox – inside its borders.
Olivia Wigzell, the agency’s Acting Director General, said the case of the new variant – named clade 1 – is the first to have been discovered outside of Africa.
Ms Wigzell said the person who contracted mpox was likely infected during a trip to one of the affected countries in Africa.
